MIDNIGHT COWBOY

Saw this movie is class yesterday... Bout Joe Buck, a texan who moves to NYC. Long story short his stay at a hotel gets cut short because he can't pay his rent. He ends up living with the Man you'll see stealing, Rico-- in an abandoned building. Trying to make a living, he becomes a giggolo, or at least tries to get as many jobs as he can. Through Buck and Rico's everyday struggle, they're a bunch of themes and intricacies shined upon that'll take me days to explain...but Anyway... This is the party scene from the movie...The scene meant to recreate the feeling that was felt at Andy Warhol's parties he held in his studio, The Factory- circa late 1960s (Midnight Cowboy was released in 69'). Trippy shit. The reason I include it is because the atmosphere at these parties were really experimental, and inspired the same attitude through artists such as Basquiat in the 80s (Downtown 81', Basquiat's Movie has similar party scenes), and now Dash Snow, and much of the downtown scene we see today (see the article in New York Magazine, titled Warhol's Children). In the movie, Rico calls all who attend the party "Wierdos"-- ring a bell? aNYthing's Weirdo tee reps the weirdo's of today:

And not for nothing, A-ron's night spot 205 is modeled after The Factory-- covered all in foil and silver. All in all, a good movie representative of the City at a point that is being reincarnated in downtown today.
